Conditions of Adoption

Thinking of Adopting an Animal?

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY

Our screened adoption process may take up to 35 minutes to complete.

Please note - your new pet may not be able to go home with you today. The adoption specialist will inform you of California mandatory holding requirements and spay-neuter scheduling [if required].

WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE

Thank you for visiting Haven Humane Society Animal Welfare Center. Adoption of a companion animal is a very important step deserving careful consideration. We are pleased to answer any questions you may have.

Because of the tragic overpopulation problem in our area, thousands of homeless and unwanted animals are destroyed each year. It is Haven Humane Society policy and the State of California requires that all adopted animals be sterilized. Please inquire with the receptionist for more complete information on the cost of sterilization or the required deposit - sterilization is included in the adoption fee.

Haven Humane Society is not a pet store and does not sell animals. Animals are adopted into loving homes as pets. Applicants are screened to determine ability to provide a lifelong safe and caring environment for their pets. The Society will not adopt animals that will live under any of the following circumstances:

Owner refusal to surgically sterilize an adopted cat or dog

Dogs that will live in yards without adequate fencing

Dogs that will live chained or transported in open vehicles

Decorative breed dogs that will live outside

Dogs to be used as guards for businesses

Dogs used to hunt bear, wild pig, lion, raccoon, or any other wild animal

Barn cats forced to live outside and expected to survive by their own means

The Society will reclaim any adopted animal discovered living in one or more of the circumstances described above, or in violation of the terms stated in the Adoption Agreement. Please read the Adoption Agreement carefully. We encourage you to complete the adoption process only after you thoroughly understand the agreement. May you and your new pet enjoy many happy years together.
